The Purpose Driven Life – My Journey Begins

by Hawk on February 15, 2010

The Purpose Drive Life

Today, my wife and I are starting our 40 day Purpose Driven Life journey.  I hope you don't mind that I thought that I would use The Debt Hawk as my Purpose Driven Life Journal.

Hopefully you won't mind considering the focus of this site is to help people reach their life goals by implementing a disciplined personal finance plan.  Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life fits very well into my goal for this site.

The central purpose of The Purpose Driven Life is to help its readers answer one question, "What on earth am I here for?"

I think that every person thinks about this question at least once in their lives, and most ask themselves this question all the time.  I know I do.

At times the answer to this question can seem so obvious, but other times life's purpose can seem so uncertain.

One of the first Biblical quotes that Warren cites is a common refrain among personal finance bloggers,

A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump; a God-shaped life is a flowering tree.  Proverbs 11:28

The promise of The Purpose Driven Life is that in 40 days my life will be transformed.  Wow, that is exciting.  I pray for such a transformation.  It is exciting to think that over the next 40 days, I am in for a spiritual journey like no other.

I would love for you to experience this journey with me. Go out and grab a copy of The Purpose Driven Life.  At the end of each post, please leave a comment describing your thoughts on that day's message.  Even if you are not going to read it now with me, please leave some comments.  I would love for this to become a social experience as well.

This looks like a good book, something we may have to read through. Our blog is fades in and out of a kind of a purpose journal too as we try to figure out exactly what it means to be wealthy and what kind of life we want to design.

I am interested to see what you guys come up with, best of luck.

I’m glad to see you taking Rick Warren’s 40 Day Journey. I love this book, it helped me develop my relationship with God. I love the book so much I re-read it once every year and have done so for the passed 5 years – this year, when I read it in May with be the 6th time. I find something that I’ve missed every time, it’s amazing how God uses that book to talk to His people.
Last year, I shared my responses on my blog: Highly Favored – it might be interesting to compare your responses to mine from last year. In May, when I share my responses to each days post, I’ll add a link to each of your daily responses so that my readers can explore what others have to say about this wonderful book/experience.
Be blessed!
